Pilot Custom Heritage 912

One of the things that I like best about Pilot is that they have such a variety of products that you can experiment with various sizes, shapes, nibs, filling mechanism, etc. and know that you are always going to get a good product. The Pilot Custom Heritage 912 is a great example. When you order the pen, you have a choice of 15 nibs, compared to the usual 3-5 options with most pens. I selected the medium nib. The pen comes with a con-70 push button converter, which holds a lot of ink. The pen’s design is the flat top and bottom, similar to the Sailor Pro Gear Standard, but very slightly larger. It is black with chrome trim and this is a pen that I like to use in professional settings, like board meetings. Also, the #10 size nib is larger than the CH 91 and adds to the executive look of the pen. It is simple, but elegant.

My first Pilot pen was an extra-fine nib, which I loved. But, as I have progressed in my fountain pen adventure, I have grown to prefer broader nibs. For a while I felt the fine-medium nib was perfect, but lately I have preferred the medium-nib. Fine enough so that it can still write comfortably in a college-ruled notebook and broad enough that I can see the nuances of the ink that I am using. This medium nib is perfect for me right now – it is smooth and offers just enough resistance so that your pen doesn’t race ahead like with some smooth nibs. There is very little, if any, feedback. It writes wet and prefers a wet ink. I have mine inked with Namiki Black, which I felt fitting for this pen.

If you are looking for a pen that is simple, professional, and gets the job done, I highly recommend the Pilot Custom Heritage 912. Buy Here

  1. I bought the FA nib and sourced 2 & 3 channel feeders to eliminate the ink flow on cursive and calligraphy writing

My only disappointment was the nib it is brand new yet toothy (bites into the paper, even quality paper)

    Very disappointing Pilot nib
