Pilot Metropolitan

How do you put a rating on your first kiss? It’s impossible, right? It’s such a special memory but you knew absolutely nothing about what you were doing. But now that you know that it wasn’t perfect, that doesn’t mean that it will not always hold a special place in your heart. This is how I feel about the Pilot Metropolitan. It was my first fountain pen and even though I know it’s not perfect, it will always be special to me.

In case you didn’t know, Pilot is a pen manufacturer based in Tokyo, Japan, and the largest pen manufacturer on the planet. The company was founded in 1918 by Ryōsuke Namiki and changed its name to Pilot Pen Co. in 1938. Namiki is still a brand owned by Pilot. The Metropolitan was introduced in 2012 and is still recognized by most as one of the best values in the fountain pen marketplace.

The Metropolitan I am reviewing is a Fine point purple model, in honor of the TCU Horned Frogs making it to the College Football Playoffs. It fits well in the hand and writes smoothly, considering the fine point Japanese models are more like the extra-fine nibs on other pens. This particular pen would be more at home at a party, but there are dozens of options and many of which would like just as good in a board room. Mine is currently inked with Namiki Black. Buy Here
