Amazon Basics

One of the first fountain pens that I bought was the Amazon Basics fountain pen. I went to Amazon and searched for fountain pens and (surprise!) this one was the first one that popped up. For $9.80 I figured it wasn’t much of a risk, and I’ve been pretty happy with the other Amazon Basics office supplies that I’ve purchased.

The pen was well packaged and presented like a much more expensive pen. It’s a black metal casing with chrome polished trim. In my opinion is looks understated, yet professional. I had yet to learn about Chinese pens, so I was just flabbergasted that you could get a decent pen at such a low price. Of course, compared to some of the other budget offerings that purchased since then, I’m not sure that I would make this purchase again.

This pen is really a very good value. It writes well – better than many pens that I own that are more expensive. It’s reliable and, outside of the fact that it doesn’t tell you which converter to use (it uses the standard international converter), I was genuinely impressed.

Now, all of that being said, whether it’s a mental thing or not – I don’t use this pen. I never even think about it unless I am going through my collection or writing a blog about it. If you’ve never purchased a fountain pen and you just want to check it out, this is a good inexpensive, yet sturdy pen to try it out. If you still somewhat new to fountain pens and looking for the next step from Platinum Preppy or Pilot Metropolitan, don’t bother spending your money on this one. Buy Here
